This is the second youtube of Apple IIgs conversions of AmigaArt that I have
posted today. As part of my ongoing documentation and examples of SHR output
from the A2B converter, I have been converting Amiga Pixel Art.

This youtube video is second in a series of Mode3200 SHR slideshows of Amiga
and Amiga Inspired Pixel Art of the last 100 test files that I converted
this afternoon. I am in the process of writing a complete document with all
the info you need to do the same thing yourself. A huge amount of Amiga
Pixel Art is available from the Internet today, so if you are inclined to do
something with your Apple IIgs you can probably get some pretty decent
slideshows together by following what I did here...

Apple IIgs 200-palette SHR Slideshow - Amiga Artwork Two - A2B Converter

Typical unedited Apple IIgs Mode3200 SHR conversions of AmigaArt using the
A2B converter. Dithered with The Buckels E-dither. Some of these are pretty
good and some of them are not so good. Since the purpose of this video is to
inform and not necessarily to entertain, the good, the bad, and the ugly are
mixed together. The Apple IIgs is restricted to 16 colors per line at a 320
x 200 screen resolution. It also has a 640 x 200 screen resolution which has
even more limitations. The Amiga was introduced before the Apple IIgs and
constantly improved. Compared to the Apple IIgs and the PC's of the mid to
late 1980's and throughout the 1990's no affordable Mainstream Computer was
better than the Amiga for Pixel Art. It was popular with artists and defined
pixel art as we know it today. The Apple IIgs was trailing edge. Displaying
pixel art from the Amiga on the Apple IIgs is like displaying GIF files an
the Apple IIe; you can do it, but they will not be perfect.

The A2B converter levers the ImageMagick toolset to produce this slideshow.
Nothing really special is done with ImageMagick or A2B which is built with
standard parts without any "secret sauce". This was all done in Windows Xp,
so nothing special is going on here.
Apple IIgs graphics converters were very challenged when the Apple IIgs and
Amiga were both in wide use. From my view they don't come close to the
conversions you see here. Today there seems to be lots of Amiga Art on the
Internet, and not much Apple IIgs Art. This is because Apple Computer did
not put the same emphasis on providing leading edge graphics as the Amiga
did. When it comes to Pixel Art, even modern computers have never surpassed
what was on the Amiga. Today's average users are generally not as creative
as the average Amiga user was when the Apple IIgs was in wide use.

All the best,

Bill Buckels
