Is it possible - using Norcroft - to statically link the ANSI C
library, thus removing dependency on the SharedCLibrary, as implied in
the very old Acorn manuals?

In principle yes, but this is not such a good idea nowadays since 
ansilib has not been kept up to date. You would be far better off 
using UnixLib, which provides a superset of ansilib's functionality 
and is under active development.

Thanks, Martin. Duly noted about UnixLib. This is more an "out of
interest" question, than a genuine usage scenario. Do you know where
one can find ansilib? Is it only available as part of old versions of
Norcroft?

You should find ansilib in Libraries.CLib.o in your Norcroft 
distribution, even in recent ones. Mine is dated Oct 2010, so things 
are not as bad as I implied. That said, ansilib has been deprecated 
for quite some time.

I'm sure I looked in there. But unless the Filer's lying to me, it
looks like I missed it first time. Thanks!

When you say yours is dated Oct 2010, are you going from the date
stamp on the file? Or do library files have a date in them?

I also have an "ansilibm" file. Could anyone enlighten me as to what
that is/does?

I was referring to the date stamp.

It was compiled with settings suitable for module code, following the 
common naming convention: For RISC OS library files the suffix "m" 
denotes module code.

I am pretty sure I did it in the distant past - the reason for doing
it totally escapes me.
