I simply followed your instructions and voila...

Thank you for your help, and I don't wish to carp, but is there any way
of persuading it to play nicely with Zap?

The "PC Keyboard" app starts automatically at boot time, and all is well
(e.g. I can rename a file from the desktop, and Delete and Copy do Acorn-ish
things in the writable icon), but if I run Zap, although the "PC Keyboard"
app continues to run, Delete and Copy now do alien things in the same
writable icon.

The only solution I've found so far is to quit and re-start PCKeys.

It sounds as if it's conflicting with the DeepKeys module: given that the
latter is a global resource, it might be worth trying to pre-load it during
boot instead of leaving it until Zap loads.
