Ah, now we're getting somewhere!
When I increase both values for x and y to &7FFFFFFF on entry, then I do
get a response in cx% other than 0.

> SYS "Font_ConverttoOS",cx% TO ,cx%.

When I put an extra comma before the first cx%, then this call does a
proper conversion indeed. Now, when I type some text, either in Russian or
in English, the caret follows the string obediently and accurately. Great!

The new challenge is finding out how to place the caret there, where I
click the mouse within a given string. Mmm... any clue?
