Hi, are there some programmes for RISC OS which can provide the commands rlocus(...,...), bode(...,...), step(...,...) or create diagrammes for that like Matlab (for Windows) can do do? Would be helpfull to me these days. Thanks, Alex'

I couldn't say if it had the specific functions you mention, but was able to generate it's output as either a Drawfile or a Sprite. Not sure where you would go looking for it these days, and it may no longer be maintained. It's in the PD library on the APDL web site, though it is rather old and I suspect there hasn't been a RISC OS update for very many years. Unfortunately the manual consists of a series of Drawfiles created from TeX pages using a special font so it's completely unreadable without the TeX font used. -- David Holden - APDL - <http://www.apdl.co.uk>

I found that the differences between RLab and Octave were quite minor, in that code for one system could be modified for the other relatively simply, so why not look at the Octave code for the functions you need and translate them into RLab functions? I think the clue is in the names: rlocus for plotting a root locus,
bode for doing a Bode plot... Control Engineering stuff.

I did guess that 'bode' just meant plotting a bode approximation to the real response, etc. But it wasn't clear why or how this was needed. So if someone gives a mathematical definition, easy enough to duplicate with almost any approach? FWIW I asked because I've never bothered much with MatLab/Mathmatica/etc. I just write what is required in 'C' or whatever seems appropriate. Then use !DrawGen or !Tau if I want a graphic. However I can see that some very complicated functions would be easier using a more 'high level' system. FWIW2 I've often found that when someone asks you how to do "X", if you ask them to explain why, and what they are *really* trying to do, it turns out that their real requirement is something else.
