Per the documentation for DumpSave, a .mx file has a format
unique to a given platform (and possibly Mathematica version).
(Click the arrow by More information on the DumpSave
documentation page.)

So, if all of your saved files are in .mx format and you are
using a different system, then your only choice is to re-create
the files.

If you need/want to move Mathematica files from system to
system, your best bet is to save in a Notebook, .m file or plain
ASCII. Other formats can be made to work but tend to be more
trouble to port from system to system.
