Hi,
I think you don't need the yMax at all. It's just
Module[{num = 10, m = RotationMatrix[3/4 Pi]},
Graphics[{EdgeForm@Directive[Thin, Black],
Table[{ColorData["TemperatureMap"][Abs[i - j]/num],
Disk[m.{i, j}, 0.4]}, {i, 0, num}, {j, 0, i}]}]]
