| Subject | PAL vs. SAL - any difference? |

Hello, I often encounter these two notions: PAL - platform abstraction layer, and SAL - system abstraction layer. Is there is any conceptual difference between these two, or it's basically the same but spelled out in different words? I've read wiki and other resources about PAL and understand its concept and intention, but not sure about SAL -- what I've met so far is part of SDK for communications devices, and basically do some sort of abstraction of underlying hardware, not only OS. Anyway this is my understanding, and it might be incorrect, would be glad to hear some comments. Thanks. Mark

The source code for the PAL layer is specific to each platform. Both provide API's usable by OS code to abstract hardware differences from the operating software. The SAL may have the UNDI stack, for example, to support PXE, while the PAL layer would have the actual driver for the platform networking hardware.

That means: it depends what you're reading. Yours, VB. (Sina in dsp)
