Hi All,

Is anyone aware of a group for ARM assembly? I found 1 hit on Google
(http://groups.google.com/group/armprogram), but its low activity and
full of porn.

Jeff

Ooh, ARM Assembly! A blast from the past.

What kind of questions do you have? Something really platform specific,
such as assembler notation, or ARM specific, such as native code for
general stuff like qsort, or something really generic that could benefit
from different views from the natives' accumulated knowledge?

Try comp.arch.embedded, especially if your application *is* embedded.

Jeff: you could try comp.lang.c - active group, not much spam, plenty of
the regulars there are embedded experts.

"tea bone stake" is either mistaken or lying. comp.lang.c discusses the
C programming language; several of the regulars are embedded experts,
but if they discuss ARM assembly, they presumably do it elsewhere.

You might check out comp.lang.asm and comp.sys.arm. (I'm not familiar
with either group, and I don't know whether they're active.)

WTF? What part of "ARM assembly" suggests a C group to you?

I doubt[1] the sincerity of that and many other anonymous posts. If
only there was something akin to "hashcash"[2] for post sincerity...

Or maybe it was actually sincere.

Have a pleasant day. :)

alt.lang.asm?...
far more common there is x86/x86-64 ASM though.

kind of funny as I have recently been starting to familiarize myself
with ARM. not much luck at the moment is nearly everything related to
the architecture seems to be being a PITA.

for a test I am wanting to port my VM project over to it.

anything to do with Android is a PITA as well, as-is trying to find some
way to get a more full-fledged distro (with gcc and a usable
command-line) working in an emulator (say, qemu).

that or find a "nice" way to streamline the edit/compile/link cycle for
native code targeting Android (for code with a console-style interface...).

for my uses, I need to implement an assembler (dynamic/in-process) for
it (that or my project will be stuck with the limitations of plain C).

not sure the best way to approach representing instruction encodings (in
the assembler), as most of the listings in the manual are bit-oriented
block diagrams (bit-twiddly in a 32-bit word).

whereas my existing assembler was more designed for x86 and similar,
which is basically handled via character-based command-strings. it looks
like instructions vaguely follow a pattern, and will probably need
brute-force assigning a letter to each pattern and using a number for
the encoded bits or similar (or, a letter for the pattern and a 8-digit
hex-block for any pre-set bits).

"KEA000000/ia" to represent an unconditional jump or similar.

basically, I am looking at extending it to also handle ARM (in addition
to x86).

grr...
