What IDE do most people use to view open source projects that don't have a .proj file? Basically, they are just a directory of .c files.

Unix. Most people consider a Unix system as a whole as an IDE. -- Rouben Rostamian

I seriously don't see what IDE the people who write this software use.

The alternative would be to import into you favourite IDE. That might work for browsing, but editing might be a problem unless you can make it match the style of the original code. Without such a match, you can get lots of irrelevant "diffs" if you ever want to submit a patch. > I seriously don't see what IDE the people who write this software use. Everyone uses a DE -- the degree to which it matches your idea of an IDE will vary from DE to DE. Most Unix developers don't use a single piece of software that you could point to as "the IDE". They (we) just use a collection of tools that work together to do the job. I use Emacs + ctags + make + makedepend + git + whatever else might be helpful. -- Ben.

Oh, and it is free.

TextWrangler (on my Mac) and TextPad (on my Win machine). I count both as "an IDE" because both have the ability to open, edit, and compile c files, and run the resulting executable. In programming, an "IDE" is not really a critical component for me. As long as you have all the tools on your computer, you can consider its OS the "IDE". [Jw]
