What color scheme do you think is best for programming in your IDE with?

Most IDEs seem to have black text on white, but this usually is too bright I think. It leaves my eyes very sore by the end of the day.

Thanks.

std text colours (highlighting from IDE)
on ivory background.
Much better than white background.

Black on white was problematic on low-refresh-rate CRTs, so many opted
for white on black. To me, even white on black is too high contrast,
and I also make heavy use of syntax highlighting, so I use a custom
color scheme based largely on pastels on black. My scheme is rather
adhoc, and if I had more time I would probably attempt to be more
consistent and deliberate about the colors and their meanings.
