Can someone recommend a good UML editor?

Also, does the typical programmer pay for a UML editor? And, does the typical programmer even use a UML editor?

Thanks.

I've never used a UML editor. I don't think anyone in my company
ever uses a UML editor.

define "typical". I've worked on projects where the code was
"generated" [1] from a UML model. The programmers on that project used
a UML editor a lot.

It often took significantly longer to change the UML than it would
have done to change the code.

these days I use UMl when i want to explain something and sometimes
use a UML editor. I don't know of one I'm entirely happy with.

[1] well no actually. It generated stubs and you filled int he stubs.
It was clever enough to keep your code if the stub didn't change too
radically.

i sometimes use free bouml editor to visual some top-level dependencies
and the most important design/architecture parts.

IMHO making too low-level diagrams takes FAR more time than just
changing the code (and automated tests). AFAIK generating code from
diagrams is near-to-dead trend nowadays.
