#357 — ELF

I would like to put some information in the .note section header of an
ELF file. I have the elf.h header file but no information on how to code
using this header. I can't find any tutorials online either. There is a type
called SH_NOTE. That's really all I know. Does anyone know anything about
ELF?

At a guess, perhaps you could use "objcopy --add-section".

I'll look into it. objcopy I've never used or heard of. Objdump I know
of but not objcopy.

This hasn't worked. I followed the man page directions and get an error. I
can't remember exactly what it was but if your interested in what it was I
can try it again.

man elf?

If that doesn't work I can email you mine.

It depends upon how long the asystole state has been, doesn't it.

I looked at the online man elf. It really didn't help me as I don't know
how to read the terms correctly. SH_NOTE is supposed to be a type I believe
I understand that. Some things mentioned are members. Members of structs I
guess and some things are macros. I want to put something into namesz part
of .note.

As someone else suggested -- if you have objdump you should normally
have objcopy; it comes from the same codebase.

I'll concede that my use of "binary" was obscure... incorrect if it makes you happy.
