Hello Mikey, These are all worthwhile goals. I can state from my 30+ years experience in software development that your plans will change as time goes on. You've listed a good set of tools to learn. However your next project at work or on your own time will likely only add one or two new feature sets and tools. Similarly as new development opportunities arise that interest you, you may find that you start to go in a different direction than you expected. This may occur a few times in your career or quite often. The joy you should have is to enjoy learning new things and applying them to new situations. That will always be of use to you. You could spend a lifetime developing just front-end applications, back- end applications or the whole thing. In reality whatever team you become a part of will need some of your skills and allow you to grow new responsibilities. I have no magic project to suggest that would encompass the concepts you want to learn. I would suggest taking each project in phases. Given what you have said perhaps you would envision a new product, start with the front-end or UI, and then move to various other parts of the project filling in the gaps. You can also consider the current project you've worked on. Look at the parts that your code integrates with. Do you agree with what they did? Do you understand it? Could you improve it or at least change it if asked to? One of the keys to being useful to an employer is helping them solve problems that they need to have solved. Perhaps they have a good idea. Can you help them make it great? Is it worth learning a new idea, like the cloud, or is it easier and more expediant to work with what you are familiar with? We can ofen pick out parts of a project and improve them later as need be. Design for reuse, growth, and flexibility where you can. Good luck with your chosen career. May it be rewarding in many ways. David
