Java missing return statement question

I don't quite understand why something like the following gives a missing return statement.

public int withoutDoubles(int die1, int die2, boolean noDoubles) {
  if (die1 != die2) {
    return die1 + die2;
  }
  
  if (noDoubles == true) {
    if ((die1 == die2) && (die1 != 6 || die2 != 6)) {
      return (die1 + die2) + 1;
    } else if (die1 == 6 || die2 == 6) {
      return die1 + 1;
    }
  } else {
    return die1 + die2;
  } 
  

}



But something like this this doesn't..

public int blueTicket(int a, int b, int c) {
  int ab = a + b;
  int bc = b + c;
  int ac = a + c;
  
  if (ab == 10 || bc == 10 || ac == 10) {
    return 10;
  }
  
  //ab - bc = 10;
  //ab - ac = 10;
  if ((ab - bc) == 10 || (ab - ac) == 10 ) {
    return 5;
    
  } else {
    return 0;
  }
  
}

I both cases the return statement is in both the if and else clause.
