PCI-X cards have extra connectors to allow them to be used in servers with all the remote control and monitoring. They can and will work in standard PCI sockets provided there isn't any hardware (capacitors, heat sinks, large ICs etc.) to get in the way because they are generally 3/4 or full length cards. ivan --

It is in a standard PCI socket and in the just over two years of use we haven't seen any problems. The big problem is finding a slot on the MB that will allow the unused last part of the plug to fit. It might be an idea to cover the exposed connectors is there is any possibility of anything shorting them out, in our case I didn't bother because there is nothing nearby. --
