Gawk was crashing so I built the newest. Make check (after changing 
CMP=cmp to CMP=diff to work around EOL issues) fails here,

 > SYS1041: The name read is not recognized as an
 > internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
 > EXIT CODE: 127

Seems that I'm missing read and Google returns way too many results. 
Anyone know what this binary is and where found?

read is a bash built-in command
