Speed tests show that I get 40Mbps to my ISP's servers. But I can barely get 1Mbps to mlb.com. Traceroutes show ping time doubling through a series of seven cogentco servers: 1. 10.90.0.1 9.3 2. 117-12-226-24.rev.cgocable.net 20.6 3. 10.0.18.9 22.3 4. te0-7-1-7.rcr21.yhm01.atlas.cogentco.com 21.1 5. be2622.ccr22.yyz02.atlas.cogentco.com 22.9 6. be2994.ccr22.cle04.atlas.cogentco.com 29.2 7. be2718.ccr42.ord01.atlas.cogentco.com 36.9 8. be2832.ccr22.mci01.atlas.cogentco.com 48.8 9. be2433.ccr22.dfw01.atlas.cogentco.com 58.5 10. be2764.ccr41.dfw03.atlas.cogentco.com 59.1 11. 192.205.36.221 63.5 12. cr2.dlstx.ip.att.net 61.9 13. ggr1.dlstx.ip.att.net 69.0 14. 12.122.251.70 69.6 15. mdf001c7613r0004-gig-12-1.dal1.attens.net 74.9 16. ??? 17. 206.16.31.18 64.5 18. 209.102.213.14 61.9 For other sites such as google.com and nhl.com, the cogentco servers don't appear and the ping time is half. What can I do about this, apart from complaining to my ISP or switching to another ISP? Bob T.

Nothing. -- Cheers, Carlos.

Note that traceroute shows the path from you to the target, not from the target back to you. Routing on the internet may be asymmetrical.
