Can anyone please suggest some working values for seconds and hitcount for
iptables' "recent" match?

Does the protocol matter? In other words, does SSH need different values
from SMTP or FTP?

How did you arrive at the values you use? Is there a better way than the
recent match to limit incoming connections?
