Hi, I use gkrellm (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GKrellM) to monitor different things in my computer. I only have a little problem: how to sort the boxes. For example, now I have: sdf sdh dm-2 dm-1 dm-3 sda sdb sdc sddd sde sde1 sr0 md0 dm-0 sdg They seem to be in the order I added them. I'd like to have them grouped by type, or alphabetical order. I tried removing and adding them again: they went to their old places. Anyone knows how to sort the monitors or boxes? -- Cheers, Carlos.

The order appears to be based on the contents of /proc/diskstats which is generated by the kernel. That's based on running gkrellm under strace to see what it's accessing. Regards, Dave Hodgins -- Change dwhodgins@nomail.afraid.org to davidwhodgins@teksavvy.com for email replies.

forwarding to alt.os.linux as well. If you feed it a suffix that you have not used before, it automatically generates the files user-config-<suffix> and sensor-config-<suffix> when you quit. Next time you start with that --config <suffix>, only the items you have configured will display in that instance. Combine this with "Remember screen location..." and you can script startup of a collection instances with custom configs.

Or I could even delete or rename the configuration entirely to force it to create a new one, and add now the wanted elements in correct order. Yes, I will try your suggestion later, I think. -- Cheers, Carlos.

I did that, and now I have the things in proper ordering, thanks :-) There is one remaining issue: the window is too high, higher than the old instance. It is because of the "led", a tiny blob that moves left and right because of the activity in that monitor. That's one millimetre at least (with 22 monitors, they add up). I don't see where to remove them - my old instance doesn't have them. -- Cheers, Carlos.

No, I want to remove that blip entirely. The gkrelm old instance doesn't have them at all. However, I noticed that the old instance was scaled to 40. Did the same in the new instance and it worked. Baffled... -- Cheers, Carlos.

Well, that suffices. Maybe I had this same issue years ago and I had forgotten the trick. Thanks. Even more, I restarted the desktop machine and it has started the correct config of gkrellm automatically. I have the modules correctly sorted. Very nice! :-D I had been suffering the incorrect ordering for many months or years. One of those tiny things that nags one to do something but one puts it on the side ;-) Still, not being able to sort the boxes via some easy GUI way, and having to reconfigure the program from scratch, is a severe lack of the program. -- Cheers, Carlos.

I can´t think of how, not to mention why, that program would take it on itself to change your input. I´ve never heard of that happening with thunderbird or any other email client. Maybe you need to talk to aioe? > I can explain that. I write on the "newsgroup" line "alt.os.linux" (without quotes) then [tab] to exit the line; Thunderbird autocompletes after a second to "alt.os.linux.suse". If I type slowly "alt.os.linux" (without quotes) and wait a bit, Thunderbird offers both ""alt.os.linux" and "alt.os.linux.suse", defaulting to the later. It is just a fact, I verified what I said as I typed this answer. No typo problem, I'm pasting "alt.os.linux" from another message. Any message from that group. -- Cheers, Carlos.
