Epson's CUPS driver:
https://download.epson-biz.com/modules/pos/index.php?page=soft&scat=32
An alternative is the ESC/POS PHP driver:
https://mike42.me/blog/what-is-escpos-and-how-do-i-use-it
Code sample:
require __DIR__ . '/autoload.php';
use Mike42\Escpos\Printer;
use Mike42\Escpos\PrintConnectors\FilePrintConnector;
$connector = new FilePrintConnector("/dev/usb/lp0");
$printer = new Printer($connector);
/* Text + barcodes */
$barcodes = array(
Printer:::BARCODE_UPCA,
Printer:::BARCODE_UPCE,
Printer:::BARCODE_JAN13,
Printer:::BARCODE_JAN8,
Printer:::BARCODE_CODE39,
Printer:::BARCODE_ITF,
Printer:::BARCODE_CODABAR);
$printer -> setBarcodeHeight(80);
for($i = 0; $i < count($barcodes); $i++) {
$printer -> text("Barcode $i " . "\n");
$printer -> barcode("9876", $barcodes[$i]);
$printer -> feed();
}
$printer -> cut();
$printer -> close();

Thanks, it doesn't work though. Oddly the only .ppd producing a
recognizable although misaligned test page is the "Epson TM Slip
(rastertotmu)" one, but it defaults to either 230*297 or 182*257
mm or A4/TM and doesn't allow any attempt to set a custom but
more realistic paper size, say 57*100 mm.
All other .ppd files ("Epson BA Thermal (rastertotmt)" and
"Epson TM Impact Receipt (rastertotmu)" although allowing the
correct paper sizes by default produce garbled test pages.
Forcing the right paper size using the first driver might be a
solution, but how could I accomplish that? CUPS refuses to keep
any changes to a custom paper size: no errors given, it just
silently reverts to its predefined non custom values.

Did you edit the ppd file? Or are you trying to set the paper size some other
way.

Thanks to all, I'm getting a bit closer to a working .ppd although still far from perfect. Never edited one before:) All test pages look fine, but are now like stretched to 200% or more in height and about 50% in width. Another test using a Glabels template produced similar results. Attached is the .ppd I edited, the only one not producing a garbled (random ascii chars) print, which is /usr/share/ ppd/Epson/tm-slip-rastertotmu.ppd *PPD-Adobe: "4.3" *% Copyright (C) Seiko Epson Corporation 2013-2015.
