His big armor advance on Kyiv was handily DESTROYED - ushering in the long current tit-4-tat war. They KNEW Putin was after them - and found good cheap simple ways to thwart him. Brilliant. Ukraine can be credited for setting the 21st century paradigm for war - drones and high- def intel on enemy movements. The days of tanks, maybe even aircraft carriers and all such "big slow targets", seems OVER. That shit is all LAST century ... like the huge British charges on German machine-gun nests defined the very very bitter end of 19th-century military tactics. The USA/EU are a bit BEHIND the curve alas. The Chinese aren't. The 'west', esp USA, are hostage to the Military Industrial Rip-Off Complex. Ike warned about them ... nobody listened. They slow down everything and make it all 10x as expensive. A few arrests for "treasonous malfeasance and profiteering" are in order. Trump HAS been cultivating some of the smaller, more efficient, less treasonous, corps that make drones and such. Alas it's not enough. While they may make good stuff, they can't make it in enough QUANTITY yet. The Big Boys seem to be doing their best to get in the way too. Wonder why ? Attributed to Stalin (or a few others), the phase "Quantity has a quality all of its own". Endless "cheap stuff" WILL wear down a foe.

I've had some experience with USA manufacturing. If a person can sense something about an iceberg from drifting near there, my briefest brush leads me to believe that USA manufacturing is mostly about awing the creator with his tools rather than actual mass production. This IS a lathe. What's it for? And so on. USA needs to learn to use its tools and stop obsessing over how shiny they may be. Bear in mind that Ukraine wants and expects to be a fully recognised nation after it beats Russia. It cares about truth and it cares about war crimes. Mostly it only claims what it has evidence for. Putin doesn't care about anything except being seen as the most powerful man in Europe. Putin dares not stop a war he hasn't won, and one he is losing so badly. He said it himself 'They will hang me' It's just laziness to claim 'both sides are the same' They are absolutely not, -- “when things get difficult you just have to lie” ― Jean Claud Jüncker

I wonder where you get your data from.
What you describe is either Bulgaria, or Albania.

That is true of every country that has barely made it out of the USSR And of course, poor in what sense? Cash terms on exchange rate? If the exchange rate sucks, you look poor. e.g. when you can buy a house for $50,000 you don't need a $50,000 salary https://uk.pinterest.com/ideas/ukrainian-countryside/913119093929/ Doesn't look to me like a third world shit hole Yes, corruption is bad, but the younger Ukrainians are on the case. And its streets better than Russia. Russia is 100% corrupt, to the extent that nothing really works, At every level someone has stolen the good parts and sold them off. But when your leader is doing exactly that with someone else's country, it just feels normal. Just like in the USA -- The New Left are the people they warned you about.

It is now losing territory in the Donbas. And in Luhansk. Donny's Persian adventure has raised global gas prices enough to help a bit, as he was presumably paid to do, but its all a bit too little, too late, as before you can export oil and gas you have to get it to a functioning port...and it looks like even the Arctic and Baltic ports are now within range... -- The biggest threat to humanity comes from socialism, which has utterly diverted our attention away from what really matters to our existential survival, to indulging in navel gazing and faux moral investigations into what the world ought to be, whilst we fail utterly to deal with what it actually is.
