Depends... some hired a person to type their manuscripts. No idea of the
percent that did this. I just recently read a crime novel in which this
happened, so probably the author employed them, too (The Secret House Of
Death By Ruth Rendell).

But did Ruth write the original with pen-on-paper, or
   with a machine ?

   I'd rec a Harvard Study - except I don't trust Harvard
to offer good advice on how to take a shit these days ...

I do note that 'artful prose' largely ceased to exist
once pen on paper was abandoned. Larger cultural shift
maybe, or maybe it was the preferred writing method,
one that took some of the 'art' out of writing ?

Would the Declaration Of Independence have been as
   good if typed-up in Courier-12 ?

Thank heaven for that.

Intelligent people are one thing, but intellectuals are the curse of the
thinking classes.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will
eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such
time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic
and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally
important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for
the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the
truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

   Heh heh ...

   "Intellectuals" generally love subjects with
a zillion potential fine points they can argue
for eternity. Does not matter if the subject
is "important" or even particularly real. Some
people like chess, 'intellectuals' love the
   arguments, it's their favorite game.

   Unfortunately they sometimes SOUND significant
and profound - and horrible "-isms" are born.

It is true that academics like to find trivial little edges
to invent controversy about, because that is a precondition for
writing a paper that can get published in a journal that nobody
reads, which again is a precondition of staying employed in
a tenure track position.

It is equally true that right-wing think tanks are even more
adept at creating superficial bullshit that SOUNDS sorta
common-sense until you think about it for a few seconds.

In my experience, the 'left' is even better at
   that, and more prolific.

Maybe old Will should have added 'intellectuals'
along with 'lawyers' eh ? :-)

   Yep ... that's what they don't understand. They won't
be REWARDED for being useful idiots ... they will be
untrustworthy TRAITORS instead - and put up against
   the wall.

Hey, betray your own ... who can trust you later ???

Beats were mainly antisocial but the angry young men were anti society

Think Greta Thunberg. Or similar.

Plenty of examples. Black Lives Matter and all the other racist Marxist
organisations whose metaphysics is 'critical race theory'. All the
climate action groups, again driven more by faith than reality.
Fashionable Veganism, fashionable transgenderism. Fashionable support
for terrorism. Fashionable Fascists. I wont name them,

No the youth of today are just as deluded as the 'Vietnam peaceniks'
'children of God' 'Revolutionary communists' and all the other clutter
of the psychedelic 60s and 70s.

Kids are impressionable and naive, and lots of marketing gets directed
at them.

What is the Doom Pixie if not an Angry Young Woman?...

Strange that Thunderbird does not include a rot13 decoder.

In versions that still support XUL extensions, there may be builds of
Mnenhy that work; Mnenhy adds ROT13 to the context menu.

Context menu > Decoders > ROT-13.

http://web.archive.org/web/20110720020103im_/http://mnenhy.mozdev.org/images/codecs.png

But out of the box I think Thunderbird only supports ROT-26?

There is an add-on for that:
