As said ... signal got all wonky and
erratic when a fair rainstorm came
over just minutes ago.

Do not have a 'perfect' position for the
antenna, but fair. Screen porch left over
from the pre-A/C days. Don't think it
can see ALL the satellites, but usually
"enough". 50-180 mbps usually.

Your downlink is about 11GHz, and uplink about 14GHz

No form of *Wireless* Internet is going to ever beat Fiber-to-the-home. *I*
presently have 1G (symetrial) from the Wendell, MA municipal fiber network. In
the next few years it will be upgraded from 1G to 2.5G. Rain, snow, etc. have
no effect.

Tend to agree - until some all-new tech emerges
   anyhow.

However my particular property is now wiring-proof.
Far too many big veggies that are WAY too expensive,
or illegal, to remove. Even worried about the power
line (can't seem to get them to fix that mess either).

Also the construction - concrete + real wood - is
   not friendly/aesthetic to new wiring.

SO ... alas perhaps ... fiber is not for ME.

Also applies to more 'rural' people. Lucky if
they get an old copper phone line.

And finally, I'm an old fart. I don't do games,
I don't do 8k streaming for six kids. Even my
crappy ATT service is fast enough. The SL has
proven nice for downloading a few of the
latest obese distros, but beyond that ...

It is not a "tech" issue, but the underlying laws od physics. Wireless is
allways going to be constrained by bandwith and transmission limits of *radio
waves*, up to microwaves.

And optical fibres are private point to point links. No overlap between
channels

Who cares? beat it into submission with a Kango

Good excuse to redecorate afterwards

   Um ... OK .........

'fast.com' tells my current up/down speed plus
some latency data. I note some of the old 'speed'
   sites don't work anymore.

My max speed seems to depend most on how many
satellites the thing can see at the moment. As
said, it varies between the mentioned rates.
Down IS about ten times faster than UP, but
   that's kinda normal ADSL.

Anyway, it WORKS - for MY main needs anyway.
On average about 10 times faster than my
crappy ATT 5G wireless router (horrible
signal where I am). Have all my other stuff
still on the ATT ... but did set up a mini-
box for my TV so I can get online media
(mostly PlutoTV). The ATT is .0.0 while
the SL is .0.1, so they don't interfere.

DID find some (annoying) way to get Linux to
'merge' subnets. Not gonna go that way soon.
In any case, if the ATT/towers crash I have
an alt, same if the Russians fuck-up SL. Two
   is better than one.

Now a handy GUI that lists local subnets, click
to choose two or more, merge to a new combined
subnet - that'd be GREAT. Likely NOT gonna see
it unless I write it myself and I kinda don't
have the energy/enthusiasm anymore. MIGHT have
been the kind of thing you'd find in old
   (o)SUSE/YAST but alas .........

Anyway, per thread, whatever freq SL uses is
very close to some resonance of water. As
such I wouldn't suggest resting your head
   on the conveniently-inclined antenna unless
you WANT your hippocampus slow-roasted :-)
