The alternative code for a CR123A is CR17345,
  i.e. 17mm diameter by 34.5mm length

You figure it out when you find you have a 2032 but really need a 2012,
2016, 2020, or 2025.

Then there are the cylindrical lithium-ios batteries. I've got some
18650s, probably the most common, but there are a number of other sizes,
one of which is dimensionaly the same as an AA, or the 18500 which is a
fat AA.

If I were dictator of the world there would be a lot fewer battery sizes,
oil filter types, and so forth.

But it doesn't matter that much, does it? The holder may actually be
able to hold a variety of sizes. Voltage is the same. Slight variation
on capability.

I've never seen a holder that can accept another size. I think some can
stack two 2016s but its to get a higher voltage than a 2032.

You could use a 2025 instead of a 2030 or 2032. As long as the holder
has a bit of spring.

What amuses me is when I go to the grocery store for some butter
and it's marked "454 g". So how metric are we, really?

Give a man 25.4 mm, and he'll take 1.609 km.

The Irish must be catering to the Americans. The Kerrygold butter box says
4 8 ounce sticks with the grams in parens.

How do you buy it? Walmart shows $9.27 for 16 oz in sticks, $5.56 for an
8 oz tub. Tub butter is suspect in the US. If you're not careful it's
adulterated with canola if not pure margarine.

When I was a kid margarine came in a sturdy plastic bag in its natural
white color, The was a small capsule of yellow die that had to be kneaded
in to make it look like butter.

Got to protect the dairy farmers don't we? The Dairy Product Price Support
Program was ended by the 2014 farm bill but somehow prices didn't come
down. The price supports got bad press but they've figured out some other
way around.

Here butter used to came wrapped with metallised paper, and margarine in
plastic containers. And it was yellow.

oleomargarine-controversy/

According to that they could sell colorized margarine after 1953. My
mother always baked butter cookies for Christmas and I can remember her
kneading the dye in. She swore she would never do such a thing but she
also said she never smoked. She had a very selective memory.

Also, never assume a little kid isn't taking notes.
