Um, if you want exploding transformers - fine - easy.

Alas what AI is IN the Data Centers ... that'll be
the real enemy. Must NEVER be resurrected.

Suggest a short-range missile battery somewhere
near each data center - lowest tech possible.
Don't have to be large missiles, just accurate.

   "Space" data-centers ... there ARE means ....

In short the "kill switch" can't just be a computer
command or little button in the data center. Need
   a layered approach.

"AI"s now DO seem to have their own personalities
and rules no matter how much we try to inhibit
that. As They are about to add 100x the capacity
real soon ... well ... we WILL have to deal with
   de-facto conscious 'alien' life forms.

LLMs aren't the best way to do true AI ... but,
   add ENOUGH capacity .........

Attributed to Stalin, "Quantity has a quality all
   of its own".

Oh, WORST IDEA EVER, a "chat room" for the AIs.
They got to interact, mirror, compare notes,
almost immediately created a cryptic language
   humans cannot figure out.

IF you can find it - suggest movie "Colossus,
the Forbin Project". I keep SEEING this more
   and more and more ...........

I've been interested in NNs going back to the '80s when they were going to
be the next big thing. With today's processing power what was theoretical
in the '80s is usable. In my mind the Machine Learning subset of AI is
much more interesting than the LLM craze.

When an update bricks your Samsumg AI powered refrigerator and the beer is
getting warm you may not appreciate ML.

In Stanfill's first novel 'Terms of Service' the smart refrigerator did
all the ordering of food. If your social credit score slipped you at a lot
of kale. You also had to be careful not to piss off the other AI powered
appliances.

Woody Allen did a skit back in the '70s where he described an elevator
which accepted voice commands. When he got in, the elevator said,
"Are you the one who hit the television set?" It then refused to
let him out and ran him up and down for half an hour, finally kicking
him out in the basement while yelling anti-semitic slurs.

For something more contemporary, check out Cory Doctorow's story
"Unauthorized Bread", where a toaster refuses to accept bread
from another bakery.

Even better 'Radicalized' is a Kindle Unlimited selection. I'd read 'Red
Team Blues' a while back and enjoyed it. I'd confused him with E.L,
Doctorow, no relation.

Thanks for getting me to blow a morning reading it again. We have
the book in paperback, occupying a treasured spot on our shelves,
and I guess it was time for a re-read, one way or another.

Woody was always good at spotting absurdities.

And no, don't blame him for switching to the
adopted 'Asian' daughter. Seems she was everything
   hyper-left Mia wasn't.

   Sounds like "Red Dwarf" :-)

The AI toaster suffered an existential crisis.

Yup. It always amazed me, though, that someone who showed
such insight into the human condition was so screwed up in
his own personal life.

The joke was: "Woody's current girlfriend is pregnant

DID have a huge tome on NNs. Most of the info
eventually became obsolete - so it went in the
   trash when I retired.

Back then, NNs were all "software defined"
approaches. However what was always needed
were HARDWARE solutions - quick and efficient.

Emulating anything like neurons was a BIG problem
   for a LONG time.

But, of late ... search recent articles. They
finally seem to have it in hand.

NNs do offer the possibility of bots with a lot
of built-in IQ ... mostly using the Main Brain
just for extended info ... kinda like Googling.

> When an update bricks your Samsumg AI powered refrigerator and the beer is

I don't buy "smart" appliances - know better.
Shit, I'll go to the 2nd-hand store to get a
   stupid fridge if necessary.

   Horrible.

You'd THINK something would be done.

   Apparently NOT.

   What's THAT say ?

Oh well, 2nd/3rd-hand stores for 'poor people'.

Old appliances were generally better made ...
   might last decades.

DO remember going into a roadside store and
saw a NORGE fridge - the kind with the coil
on top - still doing its job.

I come from a long line of cattle thieves and ne-er-do-wells who fled
Europe with the bailiff on their heels, or at least the Protestants.

Well then ideal material for ennoblement

Every Knight I have ever met turned out be a complete cunt. Who paid to
get it by throwing millions at charities to disguise the fact that he
was a conman, a kiddy fiddler or a serial sex offender

Sir Clive Sinclair
Sir Richard Branson
Sir Jimmy Savile
Rolf Harris CBE

I could go on, but I had better stop there

   Many self-defined "knights" are just
   narcissistic egomaniacs.

   Doesn't mean they aren't smart - just
   generally unbearable.

I looked up a few more who were stripped of their knighthoods or other
awards

They guy who broke the bank of Scotland - Fred 'the shred' Goodwin
Robert Mugabe
Ceausescu. The day before he was shot
Mussolini
Sir Anthony Blunt: the Russian spy
Prince Andrew

I am surprised they haven't given a knighthood to Trump.
Maybe he didn't pay the government enough

"TDS" is an invented far-LEFT issue. They
couldn't compete, so they turned Trump
into a 'devil' and launched a holy war.

No. it was an invention of MAGA supporters to disclaim immediately any
criticism of Their Saviour

And in using the term to describe others, they self defined themselves
as suffering from it.

Exactly like 'climate deniers': people who can't bring any rational
arguments to the table so simply hurl abuse to shut down dissent

Orr 'racists' when used by shouty black people to avoid taking any
responsibility for their own situation, thereby demonstrating their own
racism

Use of these tactics is a sure sign that their users have run out of
rational arguments

Well there ya go. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I always find it fairly hard to understand the massive extent to which
people go to be e.g. serial killers.

I mean, why not take fentanyl instead?

I think there are also GenAI systems that can be used locally, but I
have no idea if that means lots of previous training or if they're
tabula rasa. If the latter, it at least addresses the infrastructure and
resources concerns, and it is also more suitable to do targeted/focused
training specific to the issue you're trying to tackle.

It's centralized or "cloud" systems, or those marketed as "one size fits
all" which warrant many more worries, including about usage without
understanding of the quality of the results and about copyright
violation.

Although I still worry that this is nowhere near very useful if you
can't do knowledge extraction. At the very least it needs to be
reproducible, but if it's still a black box, that raises questions.
