And for some reason they won’t include ZFS. Instead, they want you to
use btrfs instead.

Vote of confidence in their own product, much?

It still does...

SUSE Leap's offline installer is 4.2G. The largest iso I have is Omarchy
at 5.9G. SUSE should still make it on a single layer DVD but not on a vfat
formatted thumb drive. It does include 3 DEs.

It works fine in a fat formatted thumb drive, because the installation
process destroys the format and uses its own instead.

Who is using a fat stick to save isos today, anyway? Not Linux users.
Use exfat at least.

Try copying an iso greater than 4 GB to a vfat formatted thumb drive.

We know, but you don't copy the ISO to the stick, at least the one for
openSUSE. You "burn" the iso on the stick:

dd if=isofile.iso of=/dev/sda

The formatting goes out of the window. If you just copy it, it will not
boot.

Well that is copying it, just not as a file...its copying the file
*contents* to the raw device

I pref "Etcher" ... does more checks than 'dd'.
There are a few others too.

In any case, Many Linux distros now seem WAY too fat.

Some DO offer a 'basic install' and then you can add
just what YOU want ... this may be the better way, but
many will still just download the 'everything' version.

I'm sure the Oracle version I got was "everything".
However I'm most likely to use it in a VM rather
than as a native install, so perhaps I should go
back looking for the 'smaller' revision.

Oops ... looked ... you either get the HUGE one or
the 'boot only' version or their "UEK" boot version.
Some other distros are more reasonable with a slim
   version and/or NetInst.

Oh well, Winders is still MUCH larger these days ...

Oracle ... not 100% sure I *want* to use their stuff
given how they're sending most of their workers off
to the Soylent Green factory ........

Just had a look, the thing is not included in the openSUSE repos, has to
be downloaded from an external site.

openSUSE has always been fat, but there was a minimal install option.
There is even a small install iso, it downloads anything it needs during
install.

I had issues trying to get BalenaEtcher to work. I'll stick with Disk
Image Writer. No big deal but I wonder why it isn't an option with the
TumbleWeed version of Dolphin?

The SUSE Studio ImageWriter is gone, at least the Windows version. But
zypper finds the rpm.

I'll try it the next time.

Etcher and a number of similar work fine. They DO
apply extra checks to what's been burned into the
stick/dvd. Might be useful - of late I had a bad
version of Kali. Etcher FOUND it - 'dd' would not
   have. Then, mystery crashes .....

AAUUGGH ! Ate FISH, "had" to, tonight. Now I won't
be able to sleep until 5 or 6 AM !!! Dunno why.

   Correct.

Lots of stuff is not included in typical distros.

   MX Linux has a built-in version of a stick/dvd
burner if that makes you feel better.

SUSE/OpenSUSE has always been kinda fat - however
it's mostly been a GOOD kind of 'fat'. Of late
   however .......

DID use SUSE/OpenSUSE extensively back in the
day - but then it got kinda WEIRD and I dropped
it in favor of vanilla Deb for my servers.

"Difference" ? Winders is just HUGE now no matter
which version/sub-version you have. 40+ gigs of
   GARBAGE and spy-ware and gotcha-ware What a horror !

But the download and install page recommends Etcher. Ah, no, my mistake:
it is the help for Windows, the page for Linux recommends Impression or
Imagewriter.

I have used dd my entire life :-)

When my only system was Windows (Me) I bought the SuSE professional in
floppies and CDs. USB sticks had not yet been invented.

So I think I never needed to create a stick under Windows. Maybe at work
once?

I burned install CD/DVDs, though.

No office software, no anything useful. Have to be purchased separately.
Does it have a video player that works? Mail perhaps, dunno.

I never got close enough to know. But remember that
"Outlook" is best pronounced "Look out!"
