The A16 is probably the equivalent, bottom of the barrel phone that fills
my needs perfectly. I'm not the target audience for Apple's $2000
foldable.

Hmm ... my phone people talked me into buying an APPLE A-16
iPad. HATE iPads but needed a way to get net access even if
all my other stuff went down. Not especially cheap. DID find
a clip-in mini keyboard for it however, BIG help. Have fat
fingers NOT good for on-screen keys. Charge it up every once
   in awhile.

Latest, my ancient land-line is dying. Discovered that it
doesn't RING anymore - everything else still works but you
don't know if there's a call. SOME excuses, MAYBE it will
be fixed. The tech guy pushed some 'advanced' home phone
system - price was MUCH better than my wires - we'll see.
Suspect it's some kind of VOIP box that'll use my existing
5G router. They PROMISE I'll be able to keep the old phone
number, which is kinda important. "Sam" The ATT guy -
   Bangalore fer sure .......

Oh GAWD it's hard to get a HUMAN for a weird technical
issue these days on ATT - press one, press two, YOUR
problem will NOT be in the list. Asked me for a PIN
number for my ancient landline this time - no such
thing, or at least it would not recognize the number
I put in. SO much is SO fucked up these days !!! WE
always LOSE and lose and lose .....

However, ATT, they MAY just fuck me horribly. The others
   ain't much better alas ......

Gawd, HOPE the thing connects over the wireless - do
NOT wanna reset to .1.0 network while ALL my stuff
is set to .0.0 !!! Some of my IP cams might require
me to get on a LADDER - and at my age and condition
that's NOT a good idea at ALL. Remember me asking
about how to 'extend' a network to cover .0.0 and
   .1.0 ? Got in a heavy-ish (65 lbs) big package today,
HAD a little hand-truck, ALMOST fell over twice trying
to get it to where I wanted. What a drag it is getting
old ..... remember leaping from rock to rock on
mountainsides when I was young ............

Nokia ... love their little cheap flip. Have a spare.
Regular push in SIM card instead of the screw-you
"e-SIMs" they like now. Not the best phone, the keys
get techy after awhile, screen WAY too small for most
web uses, but SMALL, CHEAP, good for PHONE stuff and
basic 2FA texts. Really DON'T wanna have to buy a more
conventional 'smart(ass) phone' - not my generation.

If forced - Android, not Apple. Android syncs with
my brain a little better - a little more Win98-ish
instead of weirdo 2/3-finger 'gestures' apparently
everybody is suppose to Just Know.

Ah .... you CAN get a version of Android that will
install/run like a Linux - even on a VM. Alas on
a computer, well, it's REALLY meant for phones,
but you CAN fool around with it.

Have a burn scar from when something DID happen.

I have a nice Nokia flip ... however it's easy to get
the back cover off. This is how I discovered the existing
battery was looking evil. DID order a spare, 'just because',
a few months back, so ......

Have a SECOND spare somewhere, accidentally bought TWO.
Now I can't FIND the other one ! Looked everywhere.

The one that exploded for me WAS cool, not swollen - indeed
hadn't even been charged for a good six months. Just lightly
   BRUSHED it and ......

Sodium batteries ain't so bad now. Check Amazon and
you'll see them being sold as car starter batteries.
I figure two or three more years, and adequate market
demand, and they'll be equal to lithium. Saw something
in a tech sheet a week or two ago indicating some
new trick both increased capacity and cycle life.

For pure safety, we SHOULD soon BAN rechargable
   lithium batts soon.

Yes, the price of making them 'waterproof'. Typically requires a
technician with heat gun and suitable tool to pry the cover off. My
'rugged' phone even worse - costs $149 to replace battery. It cost only
$250 from old model clearance sale.

Well, no, not directly. It's the "price" of trying to make them
waterproof in the most cheap way possible without regards to repair of
any form. Of course "no repair possible" *also* keeps the sales
treadmill running, so their vested interest is to intentionally make
the device unrepairable.
