Getting useful change WITHOUT empowering fanatics is kind of tricky alas. The usual scheme is to fight fanatics WITH fanatics - and then wonder why everything is still shitty.

According to the Youtube video I watched there aren't really any 'red
states' left.
Trumps approval rating is at an all time low

conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which
they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by
thread, into the fabric of their lives.”

It's not for love of Trump but the Dems are so far underwater they're in danger of imploding like that homemade submarine. Former Senators who served as a Democrats are endorsing an independent. They tried to get the person who won the Democratic primary to drop out but she's not going anywhere. Meanwhile the Libertarians held their primary and had a clear winner. That doesn't stop the state Libertarian Party from endorsing the loser. The Republicans did sort of a sleazy bait'n'switch to ensure their candidate wasn't challenged in the primary but nothing like the left wing circus. The real test will be in '28.

The cities and counties are across the spectrum. The Republicans have had a lock on the US House seats since '97. The US Senators are mixed although both are Republicans at the moment. The state has went for the Democratic president twice in recent memory. Once when Goldwater ran in '64 and the first Clinton election. Goldwater only got 5 Deep South states and his home state of AZ. It wasn't love of Clinton but Ross Perot split the Republican vote. The average Montana Democrat is somewhere to the right of a lot of national Republicans. In 2024 Trump got 58.4 % compared to Harris' 38.5. Robert Kennedy got 2% even though he had officially withdrawn. The Dems have at least one major problem in a state where 64% of the households have one or more firearms. Then there is the whole woke thing. The people don't necessarily like the Republican but the alternative won't fly. When Mccain ran a lot of people I knew voted for him, secretly hoping he'd kick the bucket and Palin would move up. We'll see,

Externally it appears there is little difference between Republican and Democrat. Money controls important policy. The main party differences are social issues. They let the little people argue about woke, abortion, immigration, but the important economic stuff is locked down, the same for both parties. Is that fair, or are their real differences? No one is doing anything to control AI, which seems a little scary to me.

There was a plan floated out for a data center that got the people, left and right, out with torches and pitchforks and the company backed down. Trump's remarks about data centers didn't endear him around here.

Without wanting to get into entrenched partisan politics it seems best to have a society with lower wealth inequality. A society that maximises incentives for individuals to contribute. The problem is that capitalism is an unstable equilibrium, wealth allows people to become wealthier. Eventually you end up with a small super rich elite. So there needs to be some forced mechanism to rebalance the scales. At the moment democracy seems to be failing to address this. The main reason for failure is globalism, the rich are above national government. Something needs to give. This is generally considered a left wing view, but I hear right wing Americans like Tucker Carlson saying pretty much the same thing.

From what I've understood, the right, and perhaps neo-liberals in specific have been pushing for decades for a less equal society in that regard, perhaps one known moment is Reaganomics. It's not necessarily capitalism, but rather policies directed at doing precisely that. Creating income inequality, reducing taxes so that there is less funding available to cover inequality in services, while at the same time disproportionately giving a much larger freebie to higher-income earners, so that the gap can easily widen, all while people in the other end are left with less and less conditions to thrive or even survive. Sadly, several european countries are going through this, and it will probably still worsen as in several countries there's still widespread usage of commercial "social media" that's known to be used to introduce strong biases towards the right and far-right, notably Twitter. -- Nuno Silva

Sadly the 'obvious' remedy is communism, which is actually even worse. As the goals of both corporate capitalism and communism are the same. A stable compliant enslaved population that will do what they are told and get what is allotted to them. A functional democracy that keeps sacking the elite until someone show up who actually has their interests in mind, if only to stay in power, is the only effective remedy ever found. AS a result of the English Civil War when too factions equivalent to democrats (Roundheads) and Royalists (Trumpists) went to war and eventually cut the kings head off. After that it was realised that both sides had power, and ultimatley civil war is bad for business, so they moved the conflict into Parliament and allowed the king to exist, but stripped of his executive powers Its a shame but the USA simply doesn't have the political history and even if it did it would ignore it. So civil war i will be. > Sadly, several european countries are going through this, and it will > probably still worsen as in several countries there's still widespread > usage of commercial "social media" that's known to be used to introduce > strong biases towards the right and far-right, notably Twitter. As far as social media goes, well yes, the prevailing load of old bollocks purveyed by 'the establishment' is the 'socialist dream'. Once unfettered, people do tend to be more centrist, which to the establishment world view is of course 'hard right' But there is plenty of hard left propaganda out there to. As in America the establishment coos at how free and happy you will be if only the latest piece of wokery is imposed on you, but increasingly people are wising up to the fact that the real issues are not about pink haired men in frocks with woollen penises strapped to their heads, but about cold hard economic facts like paying the electricity bill. -- Labour - a bunch of rich people convincing poor people to vote for rich people by telling poor people that "other" rich people are the reason they are poor.
