Maybe should, but doesn't. The current trade wars/adjustments ... things like PIs just got SCREWED. Short supplies, inflated prices. It WILL get better, but not THIS year. Oh, price MEMORY - SDs/M.2/etc - almost the ENTIRE world production has been shifted towards the "AI" market. For Joe Consumer - NADA !

Not one of the half dozen panel manufacturers had repaid the debt they accrued to build the factories. The hope was that LCD panel manufacture would be like nuclear power stations - all the profit happened after the first 20 years of operation. But nukes provide something the world needs and wants. I am not sure AI does. -- No Apple devices were knowingly used in the preparation of this post.

Alas a lot of stuff that was NOT a drag on the USA got caught up in this shit. "Collateral Damage". It WILL improve ... but not THIS year. USA, alas, has NOTHING like PIs. Should, but doesn't. Everything HERE is now kinda dedicated to "AI" - can't even get Mem/Storage. DID try an "Orange PI" ... it was NOT really "compatible" though. Could FORCE it to kind- of work ... but ......

I have no idea how many Pi users aren't doing anything with the GPIO capabilities and are using the Pi as a cheap board for PiHole, a NAS server, or other things that only need a Linux box. As the article I posted points out when you can buy a cheap mini that will do the job and comes with a case, heat sink, fan, and standard HDMI/USB connections the Pi loses it's shine. I am using the Pi to read a DHT11 sensor but I could certainly use one of the Linux boxes with a Pico hung off a USB port. It's interesting the Arduino Uno Q formalizes that architecture with the MCU soldered to the bottom and a Cortex-A MPU on top.

PIs *used* to be a good/cheap fix for MANY issues. But at THESE prices ....... And nobody in the USA makes good clone. And 'consumer' PCs and such - you can't GET mem/storage any more - ALL the mem production has been redirected to "AI". This is BAD. I got kinda lucky, got a new main lap and upgraded a few older, but OK, laps and such LAST year. NOW I could not DO it without being horribly ripped-off. Just gonna have to stand pat ... maybe things will improve - but not THIS year fer sure. Note - USING the "AIs" requires a moderantly decent lap or whatever. If you can't AFFORD those due to mem issues then you can't use the "AI'. Interesting, eh ?

I do drive relays with one of of my zeros. The others drive quality D to A converters for use as audio servers. They are (or were) simply the lowest cost Linux servers you can get. Perfect. When it comes to NAS my trial PI is not doing well. It cannot consistently drive twin SSDs. The point is that people select what is going to work for them in their application that is within their code skills.
