Yea ... price-wise indeed ... but how WELL were they 'refurbished' ? The most typical fail is in a shit-rated cap in the power supply train. I've fixed some of those issues on the bench (lucky I collected caps and shit from old equipment). Re-furbs ... they MIGHT have just replaced shit with more shit. The current world semiconductor market is in serious flux and 'AI' needs have shifted many production lines away from 'consumer' stuff. Compare prices for common memory shit now from even two years ago. All the biggies have sold their souls to the 'AI' market. I got lucky, bought a lot of memory/flash/M.2 and such about two years ago. Prices were GOOD. But not NOW. Dunno when there may be an improvement. Not THIS year for sure, probably not next year either. Umm ... 'AI' customers NEED decent boxes/laps/etc to USE the AI properly. Now you can't AFFORD those 'decent' units. PROBLEM.

I care about boot times for my main laptop, as I don't use the suspend or hibernate functionality. Once past the 5-second GRUB screen, it's 10 seconds until sddm gives the login prompt. The only downside is that sometimes a 90-second needless wait time occurs before shutdown. I shortened that a lot, but it came back. -- Law stands mute in the midst of arms. -- Marcus Tullius Cicero

'sudo shutdown' ? I'll have to try that. I sometimes do 'sudo shutdown -r now' out of old habits but 'sudo reboot' gets the job done with fewer keystrokes. The only thing I shutdown is the Win11 laptop after its monthly update.

Oddly enough sometimes reboot isn't enough: some hardware needs a full power off -- "Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. I shortened that a lot, but it came back. I tried Void Linux very recently and the start-up time is very impressive. It doesn't run systemd. It runs runit, a beautiful daemon manager.

You keep making me mourn my old EEEPc - that fell off a high roof SMASH ! :-) GREAT little unit ! Bought a couple of other cheepos that are kind-of like it, but still not quite the same spectrum of strengths.

Until it doesn't Leap 16 on the Lenovo and Mint on the Acer are well behaved so far. EndeavourOS on the Lenovo was a crap shoot.

In my experience it's pretty stable once configured, but depending on the machine actually getting it set up can take some experimentation.
