Please sit down before reading this and have
nothing in your mouth to choke on:

M$SQL

I guess M$ has realized that MS-Windows as a server platform is basically dead
(will never be a majority player). This means that as long as M$SQL is
MS-Windows [Server] only, it is *also* just as dead. And that means that
Oracle and/or MySQL will be the only database on servers (well there is
PostgreSQL, but that is also a minority player).

A case of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." But M$
has apparetly
made some patent claim to get
royalties out of Android, and most of their Office products are
 available for Android. They made
a similar claim to get Windows on One Laptop per child.

Gates put out a quality product. The motto at Microsoft now is,
 "Forget about quality.
Just get a monopoly and you can charge what you like." They
 "love" open source so much
that they would like to own it all.

I recently helped a fellow genealogist who is using OO on Windows.
  She said how much
easier it was to use than MS Office.

It's either that, or continue their journey to irrelevance.

My experience with M$SQL is that it is B-U-G-G-Y. I don't see
anyone on the Linux side being all that interest in it.
