If that's all it took to fix-up OSuse then I'd be happy.

Or you can learn to us 'ip' against the dy when ifconfig hasn't been
maintained for years and is dropped completely.

Yes, of course.

However, if you have scripts doing simple things, the tool is still
there if you wish, no need to change scripts. Gosh, openSUSE only
changed the name of the package, they did not prohibit people using it
or something. It is just not installed by default anymore.

The decision is up to the admin, no need to get hysterical about it :-)

And yes, there were very good reasons to do this.

Sometimes people do dumb things in scripts. Like implementing all
kinds of clever parsing of command output, when a quick check of the
man page will often show an easier way to get the command to produce
just the information desired -- or even lead you to a more direct
source of the information, like reading it straight from a file in
/proc or /sys.

I just figured out what c186282's name means, hence how to remember it.

Of what good are dead warriors? … Warriors are those who desire battle

Okay. I didn't make the connection since ol' C hardly travels at the speed
of light.

I cant say I gave it much thought. It isnt exactly cryptographically
challenging

   Good for you.

   But don't PUSH it.

Sorry, had too many BAD experiences with OSuse distros
of late. Anything even vaguely 'out of the ordinary',
more than Granny might do, and probs start cropping up.

OSuse used to be a 'Cadillac' distro - a bit fat but
full of solid goodness. Used it for a long time on
   many things. But then ......

Shit, even got OSuse to run on a Pi-4 - not 'snappy'
but everything worked. The bad shit has happened in
just the past two or three years.

You're better off with vanilla Deb - then add what
extras you need. Best Deb-derived distro is MX.
   That's my go-to now.

Arch derivs - had good and middlin' experiences but on
   the whole they're pretty solid.
