Finally I solved the faulty RAID1 problem using Testdisk. (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk) I recreated the RAID array on a new pair of disks, then connected one of the two unreadable RAID disks and fired up Testdisk. I chose the right partition then left it analyzing the surface overnight and this morning it had found all files and asked me for a place to restore them. I gave it the newly created RAID path and in a few hours had all my files back, including some copies of them that I renamed just before the crash. I have no idea why the old disks -all of them, including not faulty ones- were suddenly seen as 232.9G instead of 2TB and were unmountable and/or unusable as RAID although I never wrote a bit on them, Anyway problem solved, and a few bucks donated to the guy who wrote that tool.

I have also used Testdisk and it worked so well, I sent them a contribution.
