I have questions to Farley Flud: 1. Why don't you cross-post? 2. Did you know that is against Usenet netiquette, and is consider as spam? What I mean is described here: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossposting> What I mean is: You publish the same post (under title "Austria's AF To Switch To LibreOffice") on the Usenet groups: comp.os.linux.advocacy and comp.os.linux.misc, while your Usenet server provider allow set 11 groups (or more) in cross-post. So: Please read netiquette. And please to use cross-post. And please set "Followup-To:" field in your post (when you cross-post). -- Jacek Marcin Jaworski, Pruszcz Gd., woj. What is your problem: any Usenet user can subscribe any group for free (as free beer). Is this this true in Spain or not?!? I can reply to messages posted on cola and colm, but some newsgroup aren't available from my provider. So, sometimes, the follow-up is a technical requirement for me to answer a message. >>> What is your problem: any Usenet user can subscribe any group for free >>> (as free beer). Is this this true in Spain or not?!? Tell us the >>> truth: What is wrong with you?!? Subscribing to a group just to find a message can be difficult. Some groups aren't empty and if you subscribe to every group in case there is an answer, it will require a lot of time to figure it out. >> What is wrong with you? Of course nobody subscribes to every channel. >> Not even if there is a followup header. And specifically if it is an >> advocacy group. > > Then it is not netiquette flaw, but your private mental problem. This > discussion is stupid as hell! I clearly wrote, that I expected Farley > Flud answers not yours! For the other messages there isn't simple answers. Of course there is the netiquette, but the real life make things more difficult. But on this part you are plain wrong. When you are sending a message here you are not speaking to only one guy, you are speaking to everyone following the group. So, anyone here is able to answer. I know: FF/LP/DG/FR/whatever is to ashamed to put a real mail in his headers but it doesn't mean Usenet is starting to be a private way to speak to someone else. -- Si vous avez du temps à perdre : https://scarpet42.gitlab.io

Yes, and? If a conversation is on-topic in two groups, I'd say there really isn't much reason not to cross-post. Although what was going on here recently was mostly off-topic posts in crossposted (sub)threads, it's still the case that some people might be following this on only one of the groups. Netnews comes with the required metadata so that crossposts can be marked read in more than one group at once at the client side, even though some clients don't have this implemented yet. > Is this this true in Spain or not?!?
