Hi all, I'm running Mint Linux 17 at home. Is there any client tax software that will install and run on Linux without WINE? If not, is there online tax software that you've used and would recommend? Thanks Steve

None that I know of for Linux But ... For the U.S: TaxAct ( http://www.taxact.com/ ) used to have an "online" version that worked with any OS in a browser. Don't know if it still does. Stef

There are many on-line tax filing services that work with 'Any Browser'.
There is *also* Open-source Tax Solver (OTS):
http://opentaxsolver.sourceforge.net/ that will run 'natively' under Linux.

It is an intelligent guided tax preparation suite that has as an option to file online. As I understood the OP, this was what he was looking for. > There is *also* Open-source Tax Solver (OTS): > http://opentaxsolver.sourceforge.net/ that will run 'natively' under Linux. Looked at this. It is not guided tax preparation. Just fill in the forms software and calculate the results.. You still have to know what forms you need and what you're doing. Not an easy thing as U.S. tax code is so convoluted and filled with so many exceptions. Stef

What exactly are you trying to do? If you just need to file online in the US, you can try freefilefillableforms.com, a browser-based tax form that can submit electronically. If your income is not large you might be eligible for free prep software (some of which is web-based). Check out https://www.irs.gov/uac/Free-File:-Do-Your-Federal-Taxes-for-Free for options. --keith -- kkeller-usenet@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://www.therockgarden.ca/aolsfaq.txt see X- headers for PGP signature information
