Answer: No one. Their disrtos made the decision on systemd
and they could only helplessly follow suit.

Answer: No one. Their disrtos made the decision on Wayland
and they could only helplessly follow suit.

The same pattern obtains for each and every change no matter
how big or how small.

The lusers on this group do not represent GNU/Linux USERS,
who study and and understand the system, but only GNU/Linux
MOOCHERS who can only accept what is shoved down their
ignorant throats.

   of people.

   of SysV or systemd (MX notably).

Slackware doesn't use systemd. Let's not forget the OG of the Linux
world.

...and has both X11 and Wayland. The Xlibre one is in "testing". I'm
refering to Current. "startx" or "seatd-launch $COMPOSITOR". Or use a
greeter.

FreeDOS is DOSier than DOS and will network, providing you have a NIC
that it supports, or, run it under Qemu and connect it that way. You can
even use IRC with it. Just search for it, and download the image. MTCP
is already installed.

Think of Slackware as kind of the “missing link” between an earlier
all-or-nothing installation like SLS, and the later appearance of
full-function package managers (Debian, Red Hat etc). It’s an
interesting historical relic, and fun for wannabe geeks who find
Gentoo or Arch or LFS too much to cope with, but I’m not sure why you
would want to inflict it on ordinary people ...

   Arch has it's good and bad. Not gonna cuss
   it TOO much. Arch-derived are also currently
   Very Popular - so we're talking LOTS of people.

   Gentoo - NEVER liked it. Just TOO weird.

   Debs or Fedora - stick with them for the
   Smoother Experience.

   Linux isn't SMALL any more. The more complex,
   the more opps for ERRORS - maybe ones that just
   can't be solved except by 13-year-old ultrageeks
   living in the basement and on mass doses of caffeine
   and who knows what else.

   Hmm ... probably some 1999 version of Linux I can
   download somewhere ........ make a bootable

Einstein's general relativity boggles many a moron, but
it is very simple nonetheless:

G = k * T

where G is the Ricci tensor, or a special contraction
of the Riemann curvature tensor, and T is the stress-energy
tensor.

It is very simple indeed, and so too is GNU/Linux. 

You are undoubtedly far too incompetent to be able to comment
on either Einstein's general relativity or GNU/Linux.

I would therefore suggest that you refrain from misleading
people with your inexcusable ignorance.

Slackware was my first distro. Download a cubic buttload of floppies one 
by one from the ftp site over dialup and put them all together with Scotch 
tape.

Win11 well.  In 2026.  Why am I trying to go backward in time, to when

Usenet is where some key action is, even in 2026.  I know it's outdated, 
IRC is too, but I still use that, because it's where certain things are 
happening.

   I write a lot of little daemons. I like the paradigm.
   Each one would also need a 'watchdog' to restart them
   Just In Case. Twice the work - and who watchdogs the
   watchdogs ? Systemd has this built in - use it to start
   the daemons AND watchdog/restart them Just In Case.

   SO, these days, I always install systemd - and if not
   included in the distro I *would* add it.

   What I *don't* like are distros that default to
   fuckin' WAYLAND .... ruins 90% of existing related
   video utilities. Just installed a Pi02w - cute
   little things. Wondered for a while why no VNC
   xstartup worked. Reason = WAYLAND. Reconfigured
   to use Xorg and it all worked perfectly.

   Oh, Pi02w ... the on-setup networking detection
   may HANG. Ya have to skip it, then use the GUI
   network thingie to connect to yer wifi and
   do the updates. Then it's all good. (also tried
   "DietPI" ... weird nasty error messages relating
   to the 'expanded' EXT4 internal drive. Nothing
   OBVIOUSLY wrong with it, the usual utils said it
   was a perfectly good drive, but STILL the big
   error splash, refs to a utility, which said all
   was OK - but the errors wouldn't go away. PLONK !)

   DID use DietPI on a Pi3 long back, connected to the
   company network. That DID work. Used IceWM to save
   a little. Did its thing well for a couple of years
   until I made a bigger/better solution. Wrote a
   client/server system monitor app, 'C', CPU core temps,
   disk space, free mem, external mounts - the usual
   stuff. The PI was the client, made a report. Yea
   yea there's pre-writ software for that stuff but
   most of it is OVERkill. I just ran the normal
   utilities and parsed-out the needed figures. Told
   me what I needed to know. The client was Python,
   easier to compose nice reports.

   Hey, DO like to roll my own - then I get EXACTLY
   what I want exactly how I want it.
