What is the purpose of the "-@" component in the following...

find "/home/user" -name "syslog_20*.log" -print | zip -mj "/home/user/syslog.zip" -@

I assume that it represents the piped result of the find command?

Good assumption. 
"man zip" has the definition of -@

True, yet apropos \@ returns:

ExtUtils::testlib [] (3)  - add blib/* directories to @INC
lib []               (3)  - manipulate @INC at compile time
libcaca []           (3)  - authors - Libcaca authors Sam Hocevar

Ah, but gargoyle60 showed -@ was an argument to zip, therefore the
first place to look would be in zip's man page.

If it was a general purpose command line expansion question then I suggest 
  man $(basename $SHELL)
with a search like
/\@

The OP, who gave the pipeline in question as
  find "/home/user" -name "syslog_20*.log" -print |
    zip -mj "/home/user/syslog.zip" -@

The -@ is an argument to the zip command, which is the last part of the
pipeline in question.

I tried searching for an answer, but had no success. I was working on a WinXP machine at the time of
posting so I couldn't "man zip".

For future reference, most man pages can be found on the web; for
instance the top google hit for ‘man zip’ is a copy of the zip man page.

Why would you lookup \@ when it is clearly an argument to zip. 
Why not do apropos \-? or apropos z?

In my case it's because I didn't know that @ would be properly
interpreted without being escaped.
