AFAIU, gv is just a graphical front end to ghostscript, and ghostscript has always used the URW fonts for rendering documents: <https://github.com/ArtifexSoftware/urw-base35-fonts> Could the warning messages refer only to the fonts used in the graphical menus of gv? AFAIK, there is no observed loss of functionality in gv with the warning messages. > >> But this seemingly innocent episode reveals just how much >> of legacy GNU/Linux is being threatened by the pseudo-progressive >> morons of systemd/wayland/gnome. > > Correct. Or "nu-linux" as I call it. > I am very surprised that you would agree. This statement of mine was only intended to irk the distro slaves who have not the ability to resist/refuse the egregious imposition of systemd/wayland/gnome.

Not the fonts GS is using itself, but rather in the GUI
environment. Look at the Google color emoji, Noto, Hack, Nerd, and
similar fonts that have good coverage and support utf8. You shouldn't
see any warnings with xfig, xpaint, gv, or others. Foreign characters
should render, and emojis should show in color.

If I enable JS, I get a blank page, so this is utterly useless. Thank you, StackExchange, or are you called StackOverflow again now? (Yes, I'm aware this is Cloudflare, but it's still the site that chooses to limit itself to a handful of browsers.) [2] actually had one case where the problem was a font being removed due to licensing. Although that depends on whether the search order mentioned in [1] allows its reinstallation to be sufficient? You'd probably have more of a point here if you were criticizing Freedesktop specifically, as that's probably where you got that config from. > Anyone who disagrees is myopic idiot. -- Nuno Silva
