Could never afford THAT good of a darkroom :-) Anyway, IMHO, the tiny dust specks, if not TOO many, are "the flaw that creates the perfection". No, never took 'marketing' classes :-) Best darkroom I ever saw was under the Smithsonian natural history museum. Huge, rigid controls, dust filters and proper vent, the whole thing. Next door there were large rooms where you could set up any kind of lighting arrangement you needed.

'Jobo' - four drums in a temperature controlled bath - but wound up mostly using it for chromogenic B&W film. Color turned out OK, but ....

I learned about that need when reading the instructions. I knew temperature had to be controlled, but not how much and how critical. It was a plastic container where you loaded the film in the dark, screwed the top on, and then poured the various chemicals in and out. It might get you a visit from CPS these days letting a kid play with chemicals unsupervised. My most recent brush with photography was several minutes ago as I reviewed the photos on the game camera to find who was messing with the cats' heated water bowl. I don't begrudge the raccoon the water but I wish he would stop washing his filthy paws in the water.

They had raccoons in the area; shining a light up into nearby trees got lots of reflections from their eyes. Their favourite trick was to place an egg at the top of the back stairs. He seems to have given up on the kibble dispenser at least. Again I don't begrudge him a little kibble but he wants to take the whole thing home with him, doing damage in the process.

It is possible to create a fair image-rec app of course ... might be too much for a PI, at least for the earlier ones. The newer BMAX and BeeLink boxes might be better and at a fair price. However image rec CAN be very touchy ... not even two raccoons look quite the same and some hippie-dippys don't look SO much different from raccoons dontchaknow ... Hey, I still sport something near the legacy 70s look ... 'stache and fairly prominent 'burns and as much hair as I can grow these days - don't forget yer past lest you forget yourself :-) Perhaps the easiest solution is to simply remove the outdoor feed/water thingie for awhile until the wildlife forgets. However a kilowatt laser pulse WOULD be more cool :-)

Sometime this summer I discovered a sparrow that could not fly, it walked, could hop little jumps flying half a metre or so. The second time he entered the kitchen to the end. He was wary but not scared of me, so I pushed him outside, I did not want a bird trapped inside the house. I gave him a bit of soft bread and he ate it all. So I bought a bird feeder and some bird food, and tried to set it up hidden beneath a low table for plants (half a metre high), on the ground. I also got an automated camera for fauna pointed at it. Next day I looked at the photos and saw a rat eating from it. I set up rat poison inside a 10cm diameter pipe. It ate it, but takes two weeks to kill. Meanwhile, I tried to set up the feeder somewhere else. I built a half a meter diameter fence with two holes at ground level, and another net on top, and pointed the camera. I saw pigeons eating it all, not the sparrow. So I put the feeder at half a meter height from the ground, thinking the pigeons could not feed from it. The sitting stick on the feeder is too small for them. The pigeons learned to fly and crash at the feeder so that it dropped the seeds to the floor, emptying it. So I gave up. One winter a flock of wild turkeys showed up and were foraging around under the feeder. While they can fly they prefer not to so I got them a seed block. The deer thought that was great so I got them their own deer block. Neither of those were necessarily legal since there are restrictions on baiting game animals. That was the only winter the turkeys showed up. I think it was because of more snow than usual. The deer are a constant. I have a composting lawn mower so the deer shit adds to the quality.

Something to do with modern regulations making ingress to roof spaces impossible A lot of birds went with the move to motor vehicles and the lack of grazing fields for horses. Birds are all about habitat. Change that and bye bye sparrows and hi to fsking pigeons. In the UK at least most 'garden' birds are in fact woodland clearing species.
