It's controversial but one theory is the Indian subcontinent was populated by Dravidians and related people. Indo-Aryans arrived around 1700 BC bringing the language with them. Where the friction comes from is the assumption they became the higher castes.

Yes.
The French word for "meter" (the unit of length) is spelled mètre.
Its the same in English.

I've seen people smoke the brakes in a passenger car when they aren't familiar with mountain driving. Downshifting a bicycle doesn't work. I blew a tire on a downgrade where the rim brake resulted in a red hot rim. Okay, so it wasn't red, but if you wet a finger and touched it you'd get a sizzle. Disk brakes on bikes, at least the front wheel, are a definite improvement.
