There is not much you can do with a card. I worked with data acquisition cards. Say you have 8 analog inputs, 8 analog outputs, 16 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs; then you have to place the plugs on the sides for all those. They take space. You can not add many i/o on the edge of the card, they don't fit. Instead, depending on the needed speed, you could use some external bus and place the devices on the bus. Maybe USB, but there are industrial buses. One requirement, though, is that applications want to sync all i/o. Ie, take a reading of all the sensors at the same millisecond. -- Cheers, Carlos. Doesn't change much. The problem is what multiple pin connector you put at the card side, how many pins it has (the part of the card edge that shows out of the computer box). Maybe a lot, but then the people at the lab can not wire it themselves (think HDMI connectors), only certain businesses can do it for them. So, do not blindly kneel before the lab coats like the purple of old. Finally, even WITH good science, the 'logical' solution is not always the best solution - fiscal, political, economic or philosophical. The eugenics movement started with good science and the math to back it ... but was it the best solution ?
