With GNOME Files (Nautilus) on Ubuntu and Mint or Dolphin on Fedora, right click on the iso and select Disk Image Writer. Job done without remembering dd's cryptic command line. My SUSE Tumbleweed is KDE but Dolphin doesn't have the option. So far Tumbleweed is okay but it does have oddities. From the original statement, copying an iso to a thumbdrive to save it or move it around is not 'create a bootable thumbdrive'. 'cp' doesn't reformat and a 4.2 GB SUSE iso can't be copied to a vfat device. Formatting it to exfat works but it isn't automatic.
