Piker is reverting to the old CPUSA days. Moscow would announce the party 
line of the day and everyone would fall in. That led to some interesting 
cases of whiplash. The Almanac Singers, which morphed into the Weavers, 
were all for peace and isolationism and worked with the American Peace 
Mobilization, a Communist front.

Then in June 1941 it became American Peoples Mobilization and joined the 
war effort.
