photo2 in case the camera's memory isn't recognized as mass
storage. Execute

tail -f /var/log/syslog

(or where ever your logs come down) and then plug in the phone and see
what happens. You can abort this with CTRL-c.

If it's a smart phone running Android you could use adb to pull files
from the file system on the Android phone.
