I learned Perl with the purple O'Reilly "Programming Perl" book (and later the blue one) and the (excellent) documentation. A lot of programmers (or "programmers") on the other hand thought "It's a UNIX system, I know this!" and started "coding" CGI scripts, often "inspired" by Matt's script archive (which was made this way, also). To some extent PHP and JavaScript suffered the same crowd resulting in a lot of clumsy written PHP code and horrible JavaScript. > It's possible to write garbage in any language but Perl facilitates the process. It's the programmer who is in control and makes the decisions. Perl just suffered the most from the "I know this!" crowd. -- Static tumblelog generator: https://github.com/john-bokma/tumblelog/ Available as Python or Perl. Example tumblelog: https://plurrrr.com/
