Cost benefit says you don't prepare for 1000 year events, you just pay 
insurance.
Weather is very weird this year. Big El Niño. Only two named Atlantic 
storms so far.

Expect the unexpected. Flash Floods in Utah,and forest fires apparently.

Stock up on cans of pork and beans and fresh water
