are there new dependencies built into cups that make it systemd dependent now? Ruben

Not that I know of. CUPS is also used by Solaris and OS X, neither of
which runs systemd ─ systemd itself is the GNU/Linux-specific component
here.

Looking at the CUPS website (https://www.cups.org/), it appears that CUPS does not have any dependencies for systemd. The latest version of CUPS does, apparently, include "systemd support", but not as a dependency. -- Lew Pitcher "In Skills, We Trust" PGP public key available upon request

This would be http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.devuan.devel/562 Looking at the cups package in sid, it’s a library dependency to support being started by systemd; it does not depend on systemd being in use at runtime, AFAICS. For that matter the dependency is the result of a build-time test so if they’re that worried about even libraries then I don’t know why they don’t just recompile it. -- http://www.greenend.org.uk/rjk/

You would have to ask them ;) They are legit and they are making an effort to do something I would normally support, but they have their own way about them. Ruben
