If I try to install Knoppix Quantian over Linpus on an Acer Aspire One, can I
copy the old drivers? Why doesn't Knoppix recognise some of the devices
if the drivers are already there?

For the same drivers (usually called kernel modules in the Linux world) to work between different Linux installations, both installations should have the same kernel version and also the same important parts of kernel configuration. By important parts I mean stuff like memory model (highmem or PAE), SMP support and things like that. > Why doesn't Knoppix recognise some of the > devices if the drivers are already there? It is possible to blacklist installed modules so that they do not load even if the hardware gets detected by the kernel. Reasons to do so could be if another module is considered better. To really debug your specific problem it would be necessary to know what hardware you have which doesn't get its module loaded, its identifications number (from lspci or lsusb) the module you expected it to load and any relevant output from dmesg. regards Henrik -- The address in the header is only to prevent spam. I'm writing this on an AA1, all of the devices are recognized, except
for the camera, which I've never bothered to build the driver for.
This is Salix 13.37 which is based on Slackware 13.37 with kernel
3.11.5. Even the right SDHC card slot is working.
Here's the lsmod for it:
