I am planning to buy a new PC for running a Linux-based system. I have my eyes set on an INTEL CORE I7 4770 3.4GHz LGA1150 HASWELL with a BIOSTAR BIOSTAR H81MG 1150. My question is will I be able to install Linux (at least Ubuntu) on this PC? I have read on a forum that Linux can't be installed in Biostar mobo, is this true? Does anyone have or had any experience with this mobo?

But I have just bought a Compaq tower PC type 100-219ea with Ubuntu preloaded. It's a very simple machine with little option for extension (except via USB). £189 from Hewlett-Packard. I think it's going to suit us very well as an office machine. Edgar

While I use Gigabyte MBO's (good and cheap), I will no recommend those to a non-tech person. I'll say that Asus will be the best one in your case, again, your Biostar should be fine for your purposes, just learn how to configure it properly it you use UEFI on Linux.

When I installed opensuse it took care of the boot problems. So I would guess for most of the distributions you will not have a problem....with the proviso that the distribution is "modern".

Yes, and that usually holds true about everything in this life. I do use Mint16 / Win7, 64 bits on a gigabyte UEFI MBO, no problems at all. UEFI boot for both OS's, but I know what I'm doing, the OP is a normal user.
